Summary

Fife Council is the local authority for Fife, covering one of Scotland’s 32 Council areas. They employ 17,500 people and serve a community of approximately 370,000 people.

In 2019, Fife Council opened procurement for the delivery of management and leadership qualifications to managers within the council. St Andrews Management Centre was successful in our bid for this work with our proposal to deliver ILM Level 3, 4 and 5 Management & Leadership qualifications. This programme of work ran from 2019-2022.

The Results

“Loved the course, thought the tutors were fab, and I got a promotion!”

Jillian, Fife Council

95% of candidates passed

134 candidates undertook the qualification

“There was support from tutors; understanding that everyone has busy jobs and home lives and that made it better. You felt like an individual, not just a number.”

Jennifer, Fife Council

The Challenge

Developing Management Skills

Fife Council were seeking to develop the skills and competencies of their team leaders and managers through tendering for a provision of management qualifications.

Cross-service Qualifications

The qualifications needed to cater to managers from all different services within the local authority.

The Solution

STAMC won the bid with our proposal to deliver ILM Leadership & Management qualifications at levels 3,4 and 5. The units of study were selected and tailored to focus on the competencies required by Fife Council.

The work based assignments for each unit ensured that candidates were applying the theory to their roles directly.

Action Learning Sets gave candidates the opportunity to reflect on their studying in a group setting, allowing them to learn from each others experiences.

There was a clear progression through the levels for those who wished to develop further.

Successful candidates received an internationally recognised qualification from the ILM

“…this is one of the best learning experiences I have had… I would definitely recommend ILM (specifically with yourselves) to people in the future.”

John, Fife Council
